Jordan Davis’ death made headlines after the African-American teenager was shot and killed by 47-year-old Michael Dunn in the parking lot of a Jacksonville, Florida gas station in 2012. Dunn was found guilty of first-degree murder in October.
Now, that tragedy has been turned into a documentary film entitled "3 1/2 Minutes" that will air on HBO. The film was previously screened at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
"When we started this journey, our aim was make sure that Jordan's story was not going to be forgotten, that he would not become a statistic in an increasingly violent world," the film’s director said in a statement. "We are now certain that Jordan's story will reach the widest, most diverse audience possible."

Davis was in a vehicle that was playing loud rap music. Dunn approached the vehicle, and after a verbal exchange, Dunn fired ten shots at the teens inside the car, shooting and killing unarmed Davis.
The case gained national exposure just months after former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin and further igniting questions around race, violence and policing.
"By bringing this powerful film to HBO audiences, we hope to elevate the national conversation around these tragic issues," HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins said in a statement. Watch the trailer below:
