LAS VEGAS -- One week ahead of her testimony before the House Select Committee on Benghazi, Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is alleging the investigation has “zero credibility left" after a Republican lawmaker on Wednesday said it was "designed" to target the Democratic presidential front-runner.
In an interview with WIBX 950 in New York on Wednesday, moderate Republican Rep. Richard Hanna said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy was speaking the truth when he said this month that the committee had successfully injured Clinton.

“Sometimes the biggest sin you can commit in D.C. is to tell the truth,” Hanna told the upstate New York radio station. “This may not be politically correct, but I think that there was a big part of this investigation that was designed to go after people and an individual, Hillary Clinton.”
The Clinton campaign wasted no time responding to the remark after it was highlighted by the liberal blog ThinkProgress.
“House Republicans aren't even shy anymore about admitting that the Benghazi Committee is a partisan farce,” said spokesperson Brian Fallon. “Hillary Clinton will still attend next week's hearing, but at this point, Trey Gowdy's inquiry has zero credibility left."
Hannah’s comments are the latest gift to Clinton on the twin controversies of Benghazi and her email server. After McCarthy’s comments, a whistleblower came forward alleging he was fired from the committee for not focusing enough on tearing down Clinton. Gowdy, the chairman of the Benghazi committee, has denied those claims.
And during Tuesday night’s Democratic debate here, Clinton's chief rival, Bernie Sanders, essentially took the email scandal off the table in the Democratic primary, saying the American people are tired of hearing about her "damn emails."
